Roasting Garlic

Roasting garlic is easy and makes the garlic taste great.  When you roast the garlic, the intense raw flavor gives way to a very mellow buttery-roasted garlic flavor.

This is what you need

  • 1 garlic bulb
  • a dribble of olive oil
  • a sprinkle of salt
  • a little tin foil or a garlic roaster

Cut the top 1/4 inch off of the garlic bulb exposing the tops of all the cloves.  Place the garlic bulb in enough foil to wrap the bulb.  Sprinkle some salt  and dribble a little olive oil on the exposed garlic clove ends.  Wrap the garlic in the tin foil tightly and place in a 400F oven for 30-45 minutes, or until soft.

When you take the garlic out, loosen the foil and let it sit for 15 minutes before touching so you don’t burn your fingers!  At that point you can use your fingers to squish each bulb out and set aside for whatever your using it for.

You can use roasted garlic for just about anything.  It’s great as a spread on toasted bread or added to fresh pasta.  The options are limitless.  I like to eat it as is because it’s so darn delicious.
